These are two very rare old publications, authentic in every respect and in good used condition. They are the 11 x 17 inch (folds to 8-1/2 x 11 inches), 4-page German Library of Information in New York City guide to radio programs broadcast by short-wave from Berlin in Nazi Germany to the United States of America.

Offered for sale on this USMBOOKS web page is program number 38 for the week of 13 April 1941 and program number 42 for the week of 11 May 1941. Both have attractive front covers showing the Brandenburg Gate and a radio tower broadcasting from Berlin on a map of Europe. The name of the brochure, GERMANY CALLING, and the call letters and frequencies of the Reichssender or German Broadcast Stations are also shown on the front cover.

Inside program number 38 there are everyday and day-by-day listings of all broadcasts by German radio stations in both Eastern Standard Time and Pacific Standard Time for the days from Sunday April 13 through Saturday April 19, 1941 (shown above). Programs include the infamous Nazi propagandist "Lord Haw-Haw", "America Asks - Germany Answers", "Press Review" by Hans Fritsche, "Action Reports from the Front", "Military Review", "Topical Talk in Germany", "From the German Heart", "Today in Germany", "German Contributions to Making America", German folk and soldier songs, and many musical programs.

On the back cover of this April 1941 issue of GERMANY CALLING there is a collage of the publications available from the German Library of Information at 17 Battery Place in New York City (photo right).

Inside program number 42 there are everyday and day-by-day listings of all broadcasts by German radio stations in both Eastern Standard Time and Pacific Standard Time for the days from Sunday May 11 through Saturday May 17, 1941. Programs include the infamous Nazi propagandist "Lord Haw-Haw", "America Asks - Germany Answers","Action Reports from the Front", "Military Review", "Youth Hour of Songs", "Topical Talk in Germany", News in German and News in English, German folk songs, and concerts broadcast from Leipzig and Vienna.

On the back cover of this May 1941 issue of GERMANY CALLING there is a photo collage about the NSV, German mothers and their children (shown right).

Although these historical pieces of World War II radio material were no doubt produced in the offices of Propaganda Minister Dr. Josef Goebbels in Berlin, there is not an eagle or swastika on them anywhere. Naturally, the German Library of Information discontinued the publication of GERMANY CALLING after December 7, 1941 and most Americans, regardless of their persuasion, stopped listening to German radio.

Since the listings in GERMANY CALLING went out of date every few weeks and since few Americans would want to have a copy lying around their house during the war, virtually all were destroyed. There two examples are very rare in in good used condition!
