Soldaten, ein Bildbuch vom neuen Heer (Soldiers, a Photo Book Showing the New Army) by Max Burchartz is a fine hardcover Nazi book with 128 glossy photo pages. It starts with a foreword by the Oberbefehlhaber des Heeres (Commander-in-Chief of the Army), Werner Freiherr von Fritsch who is shown (see photo below left) with Adolf Hitler in the photo that accompanies the Geleitwort.
The 8-3/4 x 10-5/8 inch hardcover Third Reich photo book starts with a photo of infantry troops at dawn dated 2 August 1934, the day Feldmarschall Hindenburg died, followed by soldiers swearing allegiance to Adolf Hitler the next day.
The section that follows focusses on the training of soldiers (duties and honor) and has photos of soldiers in training, marching, shooting, with gas masks, learning how to read military maps, and having a drink from an army boot-shaped glass.
Soldaten, ein Bildbuch vom neuen Heer was published by Hanseatische Verlagsantalt in Hamburg in 1935. This 86 year old Nazi photo book is in very nice little-used condition and has no unpleasant odor.
There are soldiers on horseback training with and taking care of their horses, as well as soldiers in Kraftfahrer outfits training with their motorized vehicles and motorcycles. There are photos of maneuvers in the field, target practice, camouflage, machine guns, mortars, tanks, light and heavy artillery pieces, artillery shooting, communication soldiers and their equipment (portable and in trucks), military engineers crossing rivers and building bridges and mine barricades, etc.
The last few pages show Nazi Officers as well as soldiers drinking beer and spending time with their lady friends. According to information opposite the title page, most photos were taken with a Leica camera and the aerial photographs were all published in agreement with the RLM, the Reichsluftfahrtministerium in Berlin.
