This is a rare example of the 5-7/8 x 8-1/4 inch, 32 page heavily illustrated soft cover book Die Samurai -Ritter des Reiches in Ehre und Treue by Heinz Corazza with a foreword by Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler. The book was a special publication of the SS newspaper Das Schwarze Korps and was published for them in 1937 by the Central Publishing House of the Nazi Party, Franz Eher and Successors of Berlin and München. In the foreword, Himmler suggests that there is much for a SS man to learn by reading the book.
The book traces the Samurai tradition in Japan back to its earliest days and depicts many of the most historic implements and aspects of the warrior culture, even showing Hideyoshi’s fan which the author equates to a European field marshal’s baton. The book covers the tradition of the Samurai through General Nogi right up through Lieutenant Kanazawa in September of 1931 in Manchuria.
An example of this rare book is central to the superb collection of obscure SS books in the new museum at Himmler's SS Order Castle in Wewelsburg, Germany. A rare SS book in nice used condition.
