Established in May 1936, the German Library of Information in New York published a lot of English language promotional material about Nazi Germany, meant to familiarize the American public with the Third Reich, its leaders, its politics, culture, art, customs and history. It was funded by the
Reichsministerium für Volksaufklärung und Propaganda, the Nazi Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda run by Dr. Joseph Goebbels in Berlin. Until September 1939, it was considered to be a part of the German Consulate's general office at 17 Battery Place in New York City. In the summer of 1941, FDR charged the American Consulate and the German Library of Information in New York had engaged in activities
''inimical to the welfare of this country'' and ordered them
closed for the duration of the war (see reference photo below).
Offered on this USMBOOKS web page is a rare original English language propaganda booklet published by the German Library of Information containing the speech delivered by Nazi Germany's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Joachim von Ribbentrop in Danzig on Tuesday 24 October 1939. It was broadcast all over Grossdeutschland. In his speech to members of the Nazi Party Veteran's League in Danzig, Von Ribbentrop started by commemorating the 9th anniversary of the arrival of Gauleiter Albert Forster and the establishment of Gau Danzig.
Joachim von Ribbentrop also talked about the deteriorating of German-Polish relations prior to the German invasion of Poland, reconnecting the Free City of Danzig with Nazi Germany, the unfair Treaty of Versailles, the September 1938 Munich Conference, the German-Russian Non-Aggression Pact, and accused England of starting the war.
This rare and extremely anti-British 5-¾ x 8-¼ inch, 16-page English language publication is in very nice condition, with a fold through the middle. We acquired it from the
estate of the original owner in Saginaw, Michigan who carefully saved
Speech delivered by Herr von Ribbentrop Reich Minister for Foreign Affairs in Danzig on October 24, 1939 after receiving it from the German Library of Information in New York. Rare!

FDR ordered the closure of both the Generalkonsulat
and German Library of Information.
