The Grossdeutscher Reichskriegertag (Greater German State Veterans Day) was held in the city of Kassel from 2 - 5 June 1939. There had been Reichskriegertage before, but this was the first Greater German State Veterans Day with veterans from Austria, the Sudetenland and Memel participating.

Many advanced collectors of Third Reich material are familiar with the wonderful Raumbild 3D book called Der Erste Großdeutsche Reichskriegertag which covered the events of 2 to 5 June 1939 in Kassel, but few are aware of this smaller but important publication and the data and minutia it brings to the history of that very special veteran’s rally in Kassel.

Gaukriegerführer SS-Oberführer Weitz contributed an interesting chapter about large model naval ships which were going to be on display during the 1939 Greater German State Veterans Day. It has background information about the facility where the Modellflotte was built, and includes a rare photo of Adolf Hitler examining a huge model ship with an actual sailor in it!

This book also has a few chapters about interesting sights in the area around Kassel, for possible day trips or hikes for participants of the 1939 Grossdeutscher Reichskriegertag. There are also itineraries for organized excursions by bus.

This program book starts with portraits of Adolf Hitler, Reichsstatthalter General Ritter von Epp (the Honorary Führer of the NS-Reichskriegerbund, shown right) and Reichskriegerführer SS-Gruppenführer Wilhelm Reinhard (shown below) and the day-by-day program for the most important events.

These pages are followed by a chapters with the background, history and significance of the Reichskriegertag, many written by high-ranking SS Officers. Other chapters cover books and magazines published by the NS-Reichskriegerbund, different formations that make up the NS-Reichskriegerbund, military and historical buildings, veteran monuments and memorials in and around the city of Kassel.

This 5-½ x 8 inch, 88-page softcover book still has the original but frequently torn out 15 inch long fold-out map inside the back cover showing the city center of Kassel and public transportation options. It is shown below and is in very nice, little used condition.

This 84 year old example of Grossdeutscher Reichskriegertag 1939 Kassel was published by the Propaganda-Abteilung des NS.-Reichskriegerbundes. The cover shows minimal wear and the silver ink is not flaked or rubbed off. The area around the (tight) staples on the title page is slightly torn, but the rest of the interior pages and the map are in very nice, little-used condition, and the rare Nazi book has a tight spine and no odor.
