This 5-¾ x 8-¼ inch, 64-page directory was the last one published by the Reichspostministerium in Berlin in July 1944 and contains information valuable to consumers and businesses on how to properly address mail with the correct postal code.
This rare Third Reich Verzeichnis includes a map of Nazi Germany showing the number of the postal area of every Gau. It includes the Baltic States (with Riga as the capital of that Gau), Austria, Bohemia and Moravia, part of France and Polish occupied territory as part of Hitler's Greater Germany. This is followed by an alphabetic list of every town in Grossdeutschland with a postal code, from Aachen to Zwug in Bohemia. This postal booklet also has regulations and examples on how to write address labels.
It seems amazing that a publication like this was even printed so late in World War II, and even more amazing that it survived the nearly 80 years since it was produced! Oddly, the United States din't adopt a similar postal code system until about 1960. Rare, complete and in very good used condition. Fantastic research material for historians and authors! We've never seen another one!
