The 5. SS-Panzer-Division "Wiking" (Viking) was one of the elite divisions of the Waffen-SS made up of Germans and volunteers from eight European nations (Denmark, Norway, Holland, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Estonia and others). Initially formed as a motorized infantry division in 1940, Wiking was upgraded to SS-Panzergrenadier-Division "Wiking" in November 1942 and finally designated as 5. SS-Panzer-Division "Wiking" in 1943. Wiking spent the entire war on the Eastern Front where it rapidly established a reputation as one of the hardest fighting divisions of the German Army.
The division fought in many of the hardest battles of the campaign, including Rostov, Kharkov, the Cherkassy pocket, Warsaw and Hungary ending the war in defensive positions in Austria.
The book has many very good maps and over one-hundred contemporary photos. In fine unused condition, no odor.
