Das Amerikanische Rätsel (The American Riddle) is a book by Theodor Seibert about America’s war politics under President Roosevelt. It was published by the Central Publishing House of the Nazi Party, Franz Eher in 1941.

The author’s conclusion is that FDR’s background, his character, his inner circle and the power of the Jews in the United States provide the answer to the “American Puzzle”.

In the late 1930s journalist and author Theodor Seibert was the London correspondent for the Nazi Party newspaper the Völkischer Beobachter and head of the German Press Association in the British capital. He is known for characterizing Bolshevism and 'Rooseveltism' as two aspects of 'international Jewry’.

In his foreword,he claims that American foreign policy was a difficult labyrinth to understand - so many contrasts between words and deeds, goals and the paths to achieve these objectives.

Seibert says FDR portrays himself as the poster boy of the democratic world order, a fighter for freedom and human rights but in fact is a pure autocrat who barely camouflages his real tendencies. Across the Atlantic Ocean, Germany faces a wave of animosity and the American population seems to be under the spell of the President’s obsessive ideas and plans.

Das Amerikanische Rätsel has 64 pages plus an additional 24 glossy pages of pictures. The photos show President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the White House and the US Capitol in Washington DC, FDR singing bills, during speeches, with governors, FDR’s secretary Benjamin Cohen and his advisor Bernard Baruch, Finance Minister Henry Morgenthau, Democrat Party leader Saul Blum, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, FDR’s mother with NY mayor Laguardia, FDR with King George VI, Ambassador William Bullitt, Foreign Minister Hull “with his Jewish wife”, etc., etc.

Citizens of Nazi Germany were also able to read this same 1941 book text as a serial published, in the Nazi Party newspaper Völkischer Beobachter. This 5-¾ x 8-¼ inch, 88-page softcover example of Das Amerikanische Rätsel is in nice used condition with some wear to the corners. It has no odor.

Seibert’s chapters cover the wealthy origins of FDR (in contrast with the simple beginnings of Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini), FDR’s first foreign policy adjustments after he took over the presidency in 1933 that were heavily influenced by the Jewish Press, the irrationality of FDR’s New Deal, the spotlight on “American neutrality”, preparations for a change of course (by steering the country away from isolationism), the revelations in the secret correspondence between FDR and his friend and confidant Ambassador William Bullitt which was carelessly left behind in Warsaw and captured by the Germans, America’s response to war in Europe (the Neutrality Act of 4 November 1939), declaration of war against Germany, the reelection of Roosevelt on 4 November 1940 and the consequences for Hitler’s Germany, endless “Lend Lease” assistance for England in the form of weapons, ammunition, airplanes, ships, including military training and repair of this materiel.
