On this USMBOOKS web page we offer two original examples of the Betreuungskarte für Fliegergeschädigte, 5-3/4 x 8-¾ inch, 4-page assistance card folders issued to victims of World War II bombing raids of Nazi Germany by the RAF and USAAF. Vienna, the second largest city of Adolf Hitler's Grossdeutschland, was bombed 52 times during World War II and 37,000 houses were destroyed. The issuing authority was the Nazi Community Administration of the Reichsgau Wien. Both were issued to women who had to leave their home after it was damaged / destroyed during a bomb raid on 21 February 1945. That night the 15th US Air Force bombed the Lobau oil refinery (on the north side of the Danube) and the Floridsdorf marshalling yard (located in the northern part of the city). Both are very historic documents from the last day of the war in Vienna.

Helena Stiskala was born on 18 April 1909 and worked as a maid or household help according to her Betreuungskarte für Fliegergeschädigte which was issued by the Gemeindeverwaltung des Reichsgaues Wien on 23 February 1945.

Her Victim Assistance Card lists several temporary addresses, personal belongings that were partly or completely destroyed, and in the miscellaneous section she listed the loss of 6 cartons of cigarettes. The center Beiblatt or insert shows she was issued stockings, a handkerchief, raincoat, gloves, sheets, pillowcase and towel.

HELENA STISKALA

Karoline Landgraf was a 45 year old professional singer who rented a room in a house that was no longer livable after the 21 February 1945 bombing raid.

This Betreuungskarte für Fliegergeschädigte was issued to her on 23 February 1944 and has handwritten entries about her new address, a detailed recap of belongings lost (including her stage clothing and shoes), and replacement grocery ration cards valid from 23 February until 4 March 1945. It also shows she was issued a dress, gloves, shoes, stockings, a nightgown, and raincoat. The Beiblatt or insert shows she also received a mattress, pillow, blanket, towel, bucket, cooking pot and pan, an apron and house slippers.
