The world’s largest industrial-chemical combine or conglomerate, IG Farbenindustrie (the “IG” stands for Interessengemeinschaft of “Community of Interest” and Farben means “Color”), headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, was able to claim many famous international brand names among the products it developed and/or manufactured. Everything from Agfa film and cameras, to Bayer aspirin, cellophane, synthetic silk, chemical dyes, Zyklon B poison gas, to Leuna gasoline and even Buna synthetic rubber. Starting in 1933, the company contributed large amounts of money to the Nazi Party and soon became an enormous government contractor.

This very colorful 7-1/4 x 9-1/2 inch, 220 page heavily illustrated softcover book called Erzeugnisse Unserer Arbeit (The Product of Our Labor) was published in 1938 by IG Farbenindustrie to give employees an idea of the truly enormous scope of the enterprise. It was not for sale in bookstores. The book traces the origins of the 125,000 employee company from its early days in the soda and aniline businesses to world leadership in many industrial products during the Third Reich of Germany’s 23rd Chancellor, Adolf Hitler.

With hundreds of beautiful color illustrations as well as black and white and color photographs, the results of research and development in the fields of lime, coal, medicine and water become apparent.

By 1938 IG Farbenindustrie was one of Hitler’s proudest National Socialist concerns and it went on to worldwide infamy as the industrial operator of the SS concentration camps at Auschwitz and Birkenau.

Shown right is the IG Farben product EULAN. Many Wehrmacht uniforms were treated with the moth proofing agent Eulan and are so stamped inside.

This nice original example of Erzeugnisse Unserer Arbeit still contains the large, colorful fold-out chart of IG Farben operations around the world (shown below) which is frequently missing from this book 83 years after it was published. The flexible green cover is made of Agfa Pelloro material and shows wear (see photo at the top of this USMBOOKS web page).

A fascinating, beautifully color illustrated and hard-to-find Third Reich book, complete and in good used condition. No odor.
