IN ALL KINDS OF CONSTRUCTION

The section on the use of concrete in road construction includes a lot of statistics from the United States as well as comparisons between Nazi Germany and other European countries. The concrete use statistics of Germany are divided by numbers which include and exclude the Reichsautobahn!
There are chapters on different concrete mixes, the use of concrete slabs in bridge construction and domed structures (covered markets, railways stations, concert halls, etc.), the use of concrete in industrial buildings, improving the strength of structures with concrete, concrete ‘skeletons’ for chimneys, storage silos and stairways, etc.
Neues Bauen in Eisenbeton is a rare and fascinating heavily illustrated 1937 German book explaining and showing the development and progress made in building with reinforced concrete. This book isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but if you are into things such as the Reichsautobahn, engineering, reinforced concrete, modern construction techniques for multi-story buildings, bridge and road designs, etc. you will be amazed by the dozens and dozens of photos in this book as well as the picture captions and text.
The 8-½ x 11-¾ inch, 208 glossy page linen hardcover book has statistics, tables and great photos not found in other Third Reich books on engineering or construction. The superb photos in
Neues Bauen in Eisenbeton show unusual architectural aspects and the use of reinforced concrete in the Berlin
Reichssportfeld, Leipzg railway station,
Breslau Festhalle, Nazi airplane hangars and wind tunnels, Nazi freeway bridges, concrete decorations on railways bridges, concrete streets in Berlin-Siemensstadt, modern machinery used to produce poured concrete street surfaces (in Germany and the USA), rough and smooth concrete finishes, modern churches built from concrete, the swimming pool in the
Olympic Village in Berlin, the exhibition hall in Essen, etc., etc.
Neues Bauen in Eisenbeton was published in 1937 by the German Concrete Association in cooperation with the Economic Group of the German Building Industry and the German Cement Alliance. It was printed in Potsdam. This is a beautiful example of the 87 year old high-quality hardcover book with a tight spine, no writing, and no odor.
There are also a few pictures modern construction in Basel (Switzerland), Hershey PA, Yugoslavia, Argentina and several other countries outside Nazi Germany.
